Utilizing a Support Coordinator can greatly enhance the management of your NDIS plan, although funding for this service is not automatically included and needs to be applied for approximately one-third of NDIS participants receive funding for Support Coordination within their plans.
So how can you obtain Support Coordination as a component of your plan? Keep reading or go our FAQs page for more information.
I’ve been approved for NDIS, and need a Support Coordinator…
If you are currently in the planning process with your Local Area Coordinator (LAC), Early childhood partner (ECP) or, directly with the National disability insurance agency (NDIA), this is the perfect time to discuss Support Coordination. You can ask yourthem to include Support Coordination in your plan, and they will be able to explain how it works and what it can do for you.
I have a NDIS plan, but no Support Coordination funding…
If you already have a NDIS plan but don’t have Support Coordination, you can request for this additional support to be included at your next plan reassessment (Previously known as a review) or you can request it as a variation to your plan. Not everyone receives the additional support of a Support Coordinator, but it is certainly worth inquiring about.
Avenues of application for Support Coordination:

Plan Reassessment:
When your circumstances change and/or you need to have a plan reassessment, you can ask to have Support Coordination as part of your new plan. This is something you can initiate, or you can wait until, your scheduled reassessment. When you make the request, be clear about why you need Support Coordination and what you hope to achieve through the service. This will help the NDIS to understand your needs and allocate the right level of funding for your plan.
Plan Variation:
You can contact your plan manager if you are plan managed or the NDIA to request a small change to your plan via a plan variation.

Provider reports & Goal tracking
Maintaining effective Support Coordination relies heavily on receiving consistent reports and updates from your providers, detailing therapies, services, and treatments to track your progress as well as monitoring your budget and keeping up to date with your personal goals.
Plan Review Planning & Preparation
Your Support Coordinator can be an invaluable resource when it comes to advocating for your needs and goals. They can provide you with information about your rights and entitlements, help you prepare for plan reviews, and even attend meetings with you to provide support and guidance.
Having several meetings with your Support Coordinator is beneficial to ensure alignment when applying for the continuation of your Support Coordination funding and any other funding streams in your plan. It is crucial that both parties can articulate your needs and recommendations clearly and seek the appropriate funding to meet those needs.
